The Big Problem with Resumes!
The biggest problem with most resumes is they're nothing but
lists of responsibilities. They're boring! Trust
me, no one cares! They usually won't get you that interview and
IN FACT can actually keep you from a good
interview. Believe me, I've seen it happen! A properly-crafted
resume, on the other hand, can not only help GET
you that interview but it can actually help you stay in control of
and win the interview! So, instead of just listing responsibilities
in your resume, give the decision maker enough real information to
ask you some questions about what really counts for the both of you
- RESULTS! Managers want to know not only that
you're effective but how you're effective. Include stories.
Give the Boss something to get excited about! Help him or her
determine what to ask by featuring the very accomplishments you're
trying to sell them on. Remember, many managers have had no training
in how to conduct a job interview - even though any manager will
tell you it's the most important job they do - so help make their
lives a little easier and sell yourself at the same time!
And just to make sure that resume of yours is right on target, I'll look it over myself with absolutely no cost or obligation to you and I'll tell you Flat Out:
1. Great Job! Send It Out!
OR
2. Good Work but It Could Use Help
OR
3. Just OK - Needs a Major Upgrade
OR
4. An Embarrassment!
